FINE AS WINE Great Wine Possesses A Soul of its Own MORGAN HILL, CA - When I first started drinking wine, I could distinguish a red from a white and not much else. The wine world seemed to be populated by educated, discerning connoisseurs; thus, it was a world I felt I could not inhabit. One thing I discovered early in my wine journey is that great wine seemed to possess a soul of its own. I didn’t know much else, but I soon became hooked by the vibrancy and complexity of the wine. Before starting graduate school, I worked as a nanny for a very powerful and accomplished woman. Traci was humble, kind, and generous. One night, after we had finished putting the kids to bed, she offered me a glass of wine from her collection. We sat down, and our conversation soon spanned a wide range of topics. The wine, I vividly remember, was sensational. It was unique and different from the wine I had been used to drinking. This wine was complex, bold, yet smooth, and so enjoyable to drink. Though I could not explain the specific aromas and tastes, I knew this was a wine with soul. This has become the primary criterion by which I evaluate a new glass of wine.
