Though photogenic “Chora” is Mykonos’ most renowned
settlement, 8 km away, situated almost in the center of
the island, there is Ano Mera: A beautiful, picturesque
village that stands out for its old fashioned charm and
authentic Cycladic character. The main settlement is orga-
nized around the historic monastery of Panagia Tourliani,
once an important economic paragon of the region. Now-
adays Ano Mera is a focal point of the island, as it is on

the road to the beaches of Elia and Kalafatis, Kalo Livadi,
Lia and Agia Anna.
Take a stroll on its quaint, narrow streets and discov-
er its little traditional tavernas. Unique and unpretentious,
they serve homemade delicacies prepared with the fresh-
