The Gibraltar Rugby Referees Society

The Gibraltar Rugby Referee's Society (GRRS) was launched on the back of the excellent World Rugby Officiating Level 1 course that took place back in August 2016. Overseen by our friends at Penguin International Rugby

(http://www.penguinrugby.com), the course saw a number of Gibraltar's already qualified officials refresh their skills and theory as well as an additional 7 new referees take part and earn their whistles.

Since then, the GRRS has been working to provide officials to as many fixtures taking place on the Rock as possible, across all age ranges. From providing assistance to the Gibraltar Schools Touch/Tag Tournament to having two locally-qualified referees act as Assistant Referees to a visiting, neutral referee for last year's friendly between Gibraltar Select XV and Royal Marines XV. Incidentally, all three referees for the warm-up fixture between the Gibraltar Vets and Royal Marines Assoc. RFC last October were also GRRS officials.

We have also been striving to provide six officials to every round of SuperIV fixtures, which we have all but managed to do during this season, bar one week owing to various travel and personal reasons. A great achievement given our small pool of officials to select from.

We're looking forward to welcoming the Finnish teams to Gibraltar in what will be yet another great weekend of Rugby On The Rock, and for anyone who would take the leap from the sidelines to the turf, we're looking to hold another Officiating Level 1 course in the very near future.
