A Double Sting from the Scorpions
Wow, what a Season!
The step up in commitment from players to both games and training, our discipline and possession on the field, and our organisation as a Club has really been a recipe for success, and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you for all your hard work.
As you will be aware, the Sovereign Scorpions RC has won the last 3 out of 3 trophies in 2 years, making us currently the leading rugby club in Gibraltar. The list of our achievement over the last 2 years is as follows:
-The GRFU Cup Winners 2015
-The Super IV League Winners 2015/16
-The GRFU Cup Winners 2016
This means that, to top off a fantastic season, we have won the coveted "Double"! And on our 10th consecutive victory, no less! Since the 1st match of 2015, out of 17 matches we have lost only once, against the Stormers at the beginning of the 2015/16 season.
This has also lead to an increase in Scorpion participation in the Gibraltar National & Development squads, to an extent where 10 out of the 23 players
to be chosen for the Select XV test vs. Jersey were club members.
Where do we go from here? Well, the hard work has only just begun: first, we have a friendly coming up in May
(Date TBC) and the annual Gibraltar Beach Rugby tournament in June (so plenty of opportunity for our “Double” to become a “Treble”) and then on
to the 2016/17 season and attempt to become the first Super IV club to do
the “Double Double”!
Due to family matters, I will be
stepping down as Club Manager at the next Scorpions AGM where a new Management Board will be elected to face the future of this Great Club, but rest assured I will still be involved in a playing capacity when available (and if chosen by the new Manager)
