The Scrummary - September 2015 | Page 5

We expect to have 4 clubs competing this season for the honors of being crowned Super 4s Champion, we have launched a Non- Contact session for new entrants and with 80 plus players currently training with a quality of coaching, management, and enthusiasm, rarely seen for such a small Union.

The National Team squad also has a young and vibrant feel about it this season, Captained by Fred Cruz we have an established coaching team of Mike Milward,

Will Collin and Nick Wright, aptly managed by Stephen Payas. This season the

National Team have fixtures against Malta, Jersey and Singapore. The National Team

will be supported by an independent Selection Committee  Chaired by Iain Ross with Mark Isola QC and Kim Oliver overseeing selection with Head Coach Mike Milward

and Manager Stephen Payas forming the 5 person committee.

We have appointed a new RDO in Kim Oliver, this is a large investment by the Union and shows our continued commitment to the Youth Section and our aspirations to

grow participation. Kim joins us from Bath Rugby, following 43 Caps for England

Ladies and will lead in our Senior, Middle and Junior Schools.

From the young to the old; Paul Foster is leading the charge for the Veterans Section ensuring Rugby continues for those nearing the Twilight Rugby Years. The Veterans

also have fixtures against Royal Marines, Jersey and Singapore. There are always a

few more seasons left in the tank.

The new replica kit demonstrates a traditional feel of bringing back Cotton tops and

in plain red and white, we hope you like it. We also hope to see you wearing your colours at our new home at the Europa Point Stadium. It is early days yet but it would seem that we are now able to progress in the development of a sports ground for

both Rugby and Cricket.

Players and Clubs will continue to evolve; with new talents coming to the fore, this

will help in our ambitions to improve our domestic league, encourage participation

and be a successful team both on and off the field.

We know that we are competing with a number of other Sports in Gibraltar but we

hold an ambition to take Rugby to being one of the widest played sports. We will continue to develop the infrastructure to support this but expect to maintain the

values of discipline and warmth as a family, to create the right atmosphere.

Through hard work, and endeavour, we look forward to an exciting, prosperous, and fulfilling journey, thanking all of our Sponsors for their continued support of our

vision.
