The Scrummary - June 2015 | Page 8

Following a gruelling final in the cup last season, Buccaneers came back this season determined to do the double. There was a long tough season ahead and Buccaneers had a great start by beating all 3 clubs.

To put this years achievements in Context: the Buccaneers scored 42 out of a possible 45 points, won 8 out of 9 games, scored 61 tries against letting in 16 and the Buccaneers have the least number of players in the National Team or National Development team. We have had key injuries and missing personnel all season but have just got on with it and got the results.

Yet despite the challenges a core of the team dragged themselves out to training and games week in, week out.

A great team effort and commitment from players saw the Buccs through to the semi final of the cup where we faced one of the closest finals both in points and opponents only to be left without that ever sought after silverware to add to the already secure league win. A huge thanks to all the players, supporters and organisers not only for the Buccs team but for all that participated in all shapes and forms for the Super IV's this year!

It is really great that we all have the chance to continue to play the sport that we all thoroughly enjoy in Gibraltar.

Everyone deserves a mention but two people stand out. James Russo our Captain on the field, who has to play behind the oldest and slowest pack but does so with grace a fervor. He always turns up, plays his heart out and never takes the plaudits. This season was for you James, Captain marvelous!

And secondly our young Centre/10, Jack Knights. You were rightly capped for Gibraltar, turn up to train, play with a maturity beyond your age and again do it without arrogance or attitude. Long may it last and long may you be the Super IV's highest try scorer (hint!)

So taking a moment to reflect. To everyone who has been a part of this season well done, to those on the fringes you are always welcome backā€¦.

Lastly congratulations to the Buccs team that competed in the Gib 5's Beach Tournament, another great show from the team, however far we may have been from winning, true rugby sportsmanship on display from both traiterous Buccs and other non-Bucc players to help out when a team was much in need of substitutions!! Great day, pleasure to have taken part.

To round off, a big thank you to our sponsors Kedhlow. It was a fantastic season once again and we look forward to another great season next year with prospect of furthering our already great achievements for the club and game!
