Gibraltar Bowl Saturday 1st October 2016

First on stage were Gibraltar Vets V Royal Marines Assoc RFC

Veterans players do not tend to be shy and many players can often be found supporting the GRFU as Coaches, Referees, SIV Players or Sponsors. We are always looking for new players and not only those who have played before but we are happy taking on new members who want to learn. No matter what your age you can join although we have to point out that those who are under 35 are just a little too young.

On the day of another fantastic Veterans game, it is important to look backwards to how it all began and forwards to what we can become. The Veterans are primarily a group of rugby loving people who although not in their prime still enjoy the challenge and physicality that the game of rugby epitomises.

The Veterans were fortunate to be invited on the GRFU tour to Asia and managed a great win over a new Malaysia Veterans side. Unfortunately the toll of playing two games 4 days apart did mean a loss in Singapore but in both cases some great performances helped show Gibraltar Rugby in great shape at all levels. The Veterans really are gathering pace and are fortunate to have over 50 members with 25+ regular players.

Looking forward, to those who survive the monumental Marines Game today, we are heading off to the European Golden Oldies Tournament in Lisbon 2017. This is the 3rd EGOR tournament we will have supported and it will have over 80 teams vying to see who still has it both on and off the field.

And lastly a thank you to all those people who despite the ravages of age, put themselves out, to keep Gibraltar Rugby on the map. Long may it continue and long may the Verterans fly the Gibraltar Flag on all our travels.

The Gibraltar Veterans Committee.
