FRANCHISEE SPOTLIGHT Jason Cole Pictor Enterprises + Partner(s): Dan Pictor, Jeff Applegate, Becky Wilson and Jake Bialeschki + Year Became a BWW Franchisee: 2011 + Total Number of BWW Locations: There are five locations in our group. I am a franchisee in two but oversee all five. How did you and your partner meet? I met Jeff and Dan when I started working at their restaurants back in 2003. I met Becky and Jake through my experiences in Illinois and Indiana working for Dan and Jeff. What is the best business advice you have received? What drew you to the brand? There are three things you need to focus on to be successful in this business: Service, service and more service. Buffalo Wild Wings® captured me right from the beginning. Since I started the search for part-time work during college, B-dubs® was the only place that appealed to me, despite other job opportunities. What is your favorite thing about the brand? My favorite part about the brand is everything that makes up what Buffalo Wild Wings is: the energy, the excitement, the team members, what the brand does for the community, the guests, etc. What are your current top three business goals? 2016 Issue 1 | THE SCORE 10 Develop new methods and strategies to connect with the community outside the four walls of the restaurant; enhance both manager and/or team member’s collaboration, engagement and teamwork to better the culture, productivity and overall experience of working for our organization; and maintain cost-efficient operations while still giving our guests a true B-dubs experience. Describe your best recent business decision: Finding different strengths within my team and allowing them to thrive on them, even though it was outside the norm of past strategic business structures and/or operations. Describe the biggest industry change since you started: The recent and ongoing legislative policies being brought forth that are forcing restaurants to change how they do business. Describe your current biggest challenge as a franchisee: Trying to operate fun and exciting restaurants by recreating the excitement and culture that hooked me into this brand, while maintaining a handle on increasing costs, legislative pressures and mandates that are affecting the value and profitability of the business. What is your favorite BWW wing sauce? Spicy Garlic. If I weren’t a franchisee, I would be … Most likely working in the technology field — in an IT department of a company, or part of a company, with a technology focus. My educational background is computers and it wasn’t until my part-time job at B-dubs that I was pulled (gladly) into the restaurant business. S
