Jacob Cotton has fond memories of his youth lacrosse days in Framingham – in fact, he loved the sport so much that he continued to play it in high school and college. A current member of the Ithaca College men’s lacrosse team, Cotton recently recorded his 100th career goal as a member of the Bombers’ men’s lacrosse team, while also guiding the Blue and White to an appearance in the 2018 NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse tournament. The Scoop recently caught up with Cotton to discuss his recent milestone from last month, as well as some of his favorite moments playing youth lacrosse in Framingham.

What was it like to record your 100th goal against Cortland last week? Tell me how the goal developed and the immediate reaction you had once the ball landed in the net?

I did not know that I scored my 100th goal until after the game when I read the release on our college athletic department’s website. The goal happened at the end of the first quarter on a skip pass on a fast break. My goal evened the score at 3-3 after one quarter of play.

What does this particular milestone mean to you? Did you ever imagine you would score 100 goals at Ithaca College?

What interested you in playing lacrosse when you were younger, specifically through the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL)?

I started when I was 5-years-old in the YMCA league. My father introduced me to the sport because he played at Ithaca and loves the game.

Any favorite memories or moments from playing youth lacrosse in Framingham?

The select teams we played on in 7th and 8th grade were my favorite. We had all played together since we were very young and enjoyed playing the game together.

When you first started playing lacrosse, did you always play attack or did you play midfield, defense or goalie? What interested you in playing attack?

We played almost every position when we were younger, but when we started to get into 7th and 8th grade I began to really solidify myself as an attackman. I loved playing attack because I wasn’t always the quickest, but I had a good lacrosse IQ, which helped when facing
