The Scoop Spring 2018 | Page 16

The sport of lacrosse continues to grow at all levels in Massachusetts. The college level has seen its fair share of growth with two Division I programs - Boston University and UMass Lowell - added over the past 5 years. Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse believes in not only supporting our local college teams but creating partnerships with these programs to provide opportunities for our youth players to learn from and get exposure to the highest level of coaching and players at these schools.

Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse held special event days at Boston University, UMass Lowell and Harvard Lacrosse this Spring providing players and families with special ticket packages, clinics, youth games, autographs, and more!

Our first event was with the Boston University Bulldogs on Saturday March 10. All youth players were given free tickets to the BU vs Colgate game and discounted tickets were offered to parents. Prior to the game, we held a free clinic so our kids could learn some skills and then watch some of the top collegiate players in the country on the field.

On Saturday March 24, we hosted MBYLL Night at UMass Lowell as the Riverhawks hosted the then #1 team in the country, Albany. With the top team in the country in town, a record capacity crowd at UMass Lowell turned out, including hundreds of MBYLL players and families! At halftime, players from Chelmsford and Wachusett played a mini-game on the stadium field. After being down 9-1 at the half, UMass Lowell rallied in the 2nd half, but Albany ultimately pulled away and won 13-6. Players were invited onto the field post-game to get autographs and pictures with players from both teams.

Harvard University hosted their annual Youth Lacrosse Day on Saturday April 21 at historic Harvard Stadium as the Crimson took on Ivy League rival Princeton. We had a special $10 ticket and Harvard Lacrosse t-shirt offer that over 500 people purchased to attend the game. Following the game, there was an autograph session with posters on the field.
