Using only a magnetic compass and an airspeed indicator , he flew his monoplane , the Spirit of St Louis , through a thunderhead and a magnetic storm which upset his bearings . After he had been airborne for 17 hours , the 25 year old Lindbergh felt he could not go on without sleep but sleep would mean certain death . During the 22nd hour Lindbergh encountered a presence in the fuselage . In fact , he thought there was more than one presence traveling with him . He could see vaguely outlined forms , transparent , moving , riding weightlessly with him in the plane .
? I felt no surprise at their coming ?, he said . ? There was no suddenness to their appearance .? He felt he knew them ? they were familiar , and he felt they were there to help by ? conversing and advising on my flight , discussing problems of my navigation , reassuring me , giving me messages of importance unattainable in ordinary life .?
We don ? t need to be explorers on solo treks around the world to be the beneficiaries of unseen beings . We are surrounded by angels . We meet up with them every day but they often go unrecognized . Some are more ethereal than others , but they are there supporting , guiding , and nurturing us .
