Many of you will recognize the following types of propaganda that have been used extensively .
* Authority : The use of famous and prominent figures to support a position , including people of fame or prominent business and religious leaders . When we admire a famous person , we tend to give more credibility to their statements .
- Demonizing the enemy : Making the countries , corporations or individuals from the opposing side or those who support the opposing view appear to be immoral , evil or stupid . The attempt is to make listeners prejudice or to construct a negative opinion about the group being vilified . It is a mental trap to which many people fall prey . -
Fear : Builds support by fanning the flames of public anxieties , creating panic . Example : ? We cannot afford to wait ; we will be attacked again unless you allow us to put this plan in place now .?
- Flag-waving : To show justification based on the assumption that if you support them you are proving your patriotism and are in support of your country .
- Labeling : Used to discredit a group or person by labeling them as undesirable , using such terms as unbeliever , liberal , evil , racist , right wing , socialist , communist .
- Slogans : Use of stereotypical phrases to evoke emotional or patriotic appeal . Example : ? The Axis of Evil .?
In the Western World we are flooded with propaganda daily . We need to be aware of its use and avoid it since it is non-factual , unloving and one-sided , and does not promote unity , understanding or freedom . As I have said before , Western democracies consider themselves to be free and we tout freedom as important in our lives . But how free are we when our own governments and politicians feel the need to use propaganda to convince us to support their views ? How free are we when people deceive us to gain our support ? It seems we don ' t have governments that are for the people anymore ; they chiefly support groups that support them . We can spot how well the propaganda works by the number of supporters who quote it . Ideally , a political party should have support from all regions and diverse groups of people . Anything less and they do not represent the people . We have not seen anything like this for decades and that highlights how degraded our political systems have become .
We are all One and God loves everyone on earth . Nationalism and political ideologies are not functional if what we desire is unity and freedom for everyone . Political party ideology creates division among our own people and nationalism builds contempt between nations . While we might recognize this , it doesn ? t appear that we want to correct the situation . The most powerful countries believe they have the right to do what they want and show contempt for weaker countries that try to stand in their way . In turn , the less powerful countries have contempt for more powerful countries because their needs are ignored , they don ' t receive respect and are provided with little support to help them move forward .
In the end , it is balancing Divine Will with Divine Love . I now understand the illusions of guilt , anger and hate cannot exist in a place of love , joy , unity , understanding and freedom . Always be conscious of what works for you and what does not work for you . Become aware of who you are , who you want to be and why . Bring love , joy , unity , understanding and freedom in to your life , especially to your shadow self . Love , joy , unity , understanding and freedom are the signposts that you are on a path to your higher self . For this I am grateful .
