The Chinese Year of the Red Rooster began at the end of January ,

and the guiding principle In Chinese households to welcome the new year is ? out with the old and in with the new .? But you don ' t have to celebrate Chinese New Year to practice some of this Feng Shui-wise advice for clearing out old energy in anticipation of any special day . Here are a few of my favorite Feng Shui tips for clearing out old , stale chi to make room for good fortune to find you :
Clear the Slate . Reconcile with friends , family , and colleagues and settle any pre-existing disagreements .
Clean Thoroughly . Dirt , dust , and trash represent negative chi . Give your home and office a thorough cleaning , remembering to sweep toward the door rather than into the room . Get rid of items that you no longer need , want , or use .
Pay Off Debts . Pay off any debts before the arrival of a holiday or an auspicious day so you can start fresh with no obligations hanging over your head .
Buy New Clothes . Buy new clothes or shoes , preferably something in red , the auspicious Fire Element color that attracts positive chi .
Decorate with Flowers . Adorn your home and office with fresh flowers and plants . You can read about choosing specific flowers for their symbolism in my blog " Feng Shui and the Language of Flowers ." The link is http :/ / fengshuiforreallife . com / Detailed / 326 . html .
Give Thanks . On the eve of any holiday , offer thanks to higher beings and ancestors for your past good luck , and then ask for their blessings and continued good fortune for the coming year .
Open the Door . On the morning of the actual holiday or auspicious event , open your front door and actively welcome in positive energy and good fortune .
