Trevor Jackson - In My Feelings

Trevor Jackson’s voice is simply amazing. He’s a young talent that’s reviving R&B while keeping his music young and fresh, joining the R&Bass movement. Features include Kevin Gates, Iyn Jay, Mystikal, and IAMSU! So, out of 14 tracks, I think that’s a good number of appearances. Overall, I was pleased that this tape kept me on my toes, figuring out his references to classic records like R. Kelly’s “12 Play” with “Bump and Grind” and “Your Body’s Callin,” The Whispers’ “It’s A Love Thing,” Aaliyah’s “Come Over,” Hall & Oates “Maneater,” Michael Jackson’s “The Lady In My Life” and “Thriller.” Trevor Jackson’s voice along with the sexy tone of this album mesh well together and I’m definitely listening to his next project. He has yet to disappoint me with any music that he’s put out and I think that momentum is going to continue.

Talib Kweli - Fuck The Money

Prior to this project, I'd never listened to Talib Kweli but it turned out that this album was pretty good. There were a few moments where I wished he didn't include a certain hook or that his flow was better. Other than that, this is a solid body of work. I just don't see myself listening to him after this.

Tyga - Fuk Wat They Talkin Bout

This mixtape is definitely a response to the media speculation of Tyga’s relationship with Kylie Jenner. Within the 15 tracks, he touches on the scandal several times and to me, it seems like he’s denying it but claiming it as well. It’s a little confusing but despite that, the production of the tape is up to par and lyrically, Tyga is okay. Although this tape as a whole doesn’t really stand out to me, there’s a few tracks that caught my attention like “Clarity” and “Scandal.”

Alessia Cara - Four Pink Walls EP

This EP is perfection. It’s that simple. “Here” was only the beginning for me. Alessia takes timeless topics, catchy and relatable lyrics, her flawless voice, and brings it all to completion with extremely enjoyable beats. Each track on this EP was amazing. She reminds me of Amy Winehouse a little but she stays in her own lane. I can tell that she isn’t trying to be something that she’s not. Her talent speaks for itself and it’s safe to say that Alessia Cara is on my radar, heavily.
