Round 4 rACE rEPORT The riders left it all out on the track at the fourth round of the Monster Energy Road to Mammoth series, battling for points toward the AMA King of the West title. The competition was fiercer than ever at Oatfield Raceway. By Rachel Witt, Photos by Jason Witt It’s going to be a close race for the KOTW title in the 250 B class, with #242 Josh Mosiman from Team 2X leading by a mere point in front of Lucas Legion rider #117 Nicholas Nisbet, who took the win at Monster Energy Road to Mammoth Round 3 at Porterville. Nisbet also leads the 450 B class KOTW race by seventeen points. Not to be underestimated is RTM 4’s winner in both 250 B and 250 B/C Open, Cole Barbieri, the Team 2X rider on the 972 Honda who has now moved into fifth in the KOTW points behind RJ Wageman and Tristan Miller in 250 B, and second in the points for 250 B/C Open behind Mosiman. One of the closest KOTW classes on the books, Mini Sr 2 9-14, brought some battles at Oatfield, with Monster / Kawasaki #325 rider Stilez Robertson sweeping both motos, fending off #122 Monster / Kawasaki rider Carson Mumford and #33 Team 2X KTM rider #33 Derek Drake, who battled Mumford for second. Mumford currently leads the KOTW race by only one point, with Drake in a close second. But in Supermini 1, it was Drake with the win ahead of Mumford, giving him a 23 point lead for the KOTW title in that class. Drake also leads the points in Supermini 2. And though Robertson trails 12 points behind Mumford in Mini Sr 2, his dominant performances at both Road to Mammoth events he has raced, prove that he is a definite contender in the race for the crown. The points have shifted in 450 Pro Sport after Lucas Legion / Team 2X rider #327 Ikua Hughes won the second moto and came close to winning the first moto before a mistake in the final lap made room for Team 2X rider #294 Joshua Camarena to take the win. Hughes ended up with a third overall for the day. Newcomer to the RTM series at round 4, #160 Corey Pennington took first overall in the class, but he’s still 29 points behind Camarena, the points leader. Download Photos 54 theROOTSMX • ISSUE 1 2014
