Ten years ago a tragic accident
took the life of young Brett Downey
when he was practicing at his local
track. Brett crashed at the base of
a jump, and because the track was
negligent in providing enough flaggers and separating bike sizes by
class, there was no flagger on the
jump to notify oncoming riders, and
a big bike landed on Brett.
The Downey family turned this tragedy into a positive force for good
by creating the Brett Downey Safety
Foundation.
Set in place to promote safe practices at tracks that would prevent future losses, the Brett Downey Foundation provides flagger education
and the same safety lights used by
Supercross to any track in the coun-
try, free of charge. Through support
from sponsors like Monster Energy,
Troy Lee Designs, and Pro Circuit,
the Brett Downey Foundation works
to promote motocross safety to
preserve the lives of our youth and
loved ones.
