In Depth Wednesday, May 6, 2015 SPLOST Update What’s happening with your sales tax money New Life for Fire Trucks It was a baptism not of fire but of pressurized water as Rockdale County Fire-Rescue ceremonially welcomed four new fire trucks Monday. The trucks, purchased with SPLOST penny-sales tax funds, will replace four of the oldest fire units. RCFR also ceremonially washed a unit donated to Rockdale Career Academy for students working toward certification as firefighters through a partnership between RCFR, the Career Academy and Georgia Piedmont Technical College. RCFR will be posting for new firefighter jobs soon at rockdalecounty. org and RCA is taking student applications for the firefighter certification program. New cameras and facility for South River trail approved The Rockdale County SPLOST Oversight Committee approved a number of items for the at their Monday meeting, mostly those pertaining to needs for the Parks and Recreation department. The most expensive request made by Craig McCullough, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Subcommittee, was for $90,000 to purchase new cameras and build a maintenance facility to raise the “security” presence along the South River trail.
