a small piece of stewarton in the usa
by adam lyon
When Stewarton Academy 6th year student Ewan Lancaster steps on a flight to the USA at the end of
August, he will be taking the biggest jump of his life so far. He is not going there on holiday, but is in fact
continuing his education in the Big Apple, New York. Specifically, he will be undertaking a basketball
scholarship at The Hun School of Princeton in New Jersey, a stone’s throw from New York City. I caught up
with the 6’6” 17 year old as he made his final preparations for his giant leap ‘across the pond’.

I am looking forward to both the basketball and academic opportunity.
Being part of a different education system will be otherwise challenging
but it presents me with classes I would not have had the chance to study.

Princeton was unbelievable. The facilities, people, students and faculty
were beyond expectations and I could not have been made more
welcome. The next day we flew to Miami to explore my second school
in Boca Raton. It was a very different atmosphere, in terms of heat,
size and layout, but it was equally as unbelievable. Both schools had
incredible facilities and very dedicated staff. I returned knowing I
wanted to have that experience.
how di d you decide be t we en th e t wo sc h ool s?
Being offered a place at both schools was absolutely fantastic and led to
much soul searching as to where I’d
