Stewarton and District Community Council News
an action plan for a town and its people
Stewarton & District Community Council is considering the development of a local Action Plan to address the priorities and
interests of all the local residents, businesses, voluntary and sports groups. The intention is to highlight all the good things that
currently happen within the Community, and then develop an Action Plan to improve our Town.
The aim of this Action Plan is to:
• Provide the means for all the interested parties to come
together to think about, influence and then plan the future for
Stewarton.
• Generate more involvement in the Community from local
residents, organisations, businesses, voluntary and community
groups, and sports clubs.
• Provide a process for local democracy and active citizenship
within the Community.
• Enable Community involvement in the creation of a Plan for
Stewarton.
Letters of invitation to this meeting will be sent to a wide range of
organisations, clubs and local traders in order that they can share their
views on the way ahead for Stewarton over a cup of tea or coffee.
Meanwhile, all are welcome to seek further information from Graham
Piggott, the Vice-Chairman of the Stewarton & District Community
Council.

Mackintosh & Wylie, solicitors in Kilmarnock and Stewarton, have
nominated Children 1st as their charity of the year. Their senior partner,
Campbell Fullarton, commented, “This is a new venture for us although we
have been involved in Will Aid and similar schemes in the past. We felt that
we wanted to make a longer term commitment to support charities in a
novel way while building on the concept of Will Aid by encouraging people
to make Wills and, where appropriate, Powers of Attorney so that they have
made suitable and sensible provision for the future. These are very important
matters that require careful consideration and advice and we are delighted
to have Karen Stewart, one of our Associates with a specialist qualification
in Wills and Estate Planning, available to guide people in these areas. Rather
than do basic Wills free for one month, the difference in our approach is that
10% of all fees generated from the professional preparation of Wills and
Powers of Attorney throughout the whole of 2015 will be donated by us to
our nominated charity.”
So why did the firm choose Children 1st as their charity of choice for 2015?
Mackintosh & Wylie started business in Kilmarnock in 1880 and have
been supporting families in one way or another since then. Over the last
25 years they have built an excellent reputation in this area through the
work of their family law team. Lesley Dowdalls, who is the head of the
team, is an accredited specialist in both family law and child law and has
seen the benefit to children of charitable organisations, such as Children
1st, supporting vulnerable families. Lesley said, “I have provided advice to
vulnerable children and families in Ayrshire and beyond for nearly 3 decades.
When we decided to nominate a charity of the year, it seemed natural to
support a charity which is actively and widely involved i
