Do you enjoy music and are looking for something to do
on a Friday afternoon?
We want to tell you about a community event in
Stewarton run at St Columba’s Church Hall on the last
Friday afternoon (2pm to 3.45pm) of each month.
The Review caught up with
bodybuilder Nick Vandal
following his fantastic personal
achievement of finishing second
in Mr Universe in October...
“I’ve been training 23 years,
most of that in Porky’s gym in
Stewarton until it closed last
year. I train with weights 4 times
a week and when dieting for a
contest I also do two 45 minutes
cardio sessions per day. My first
cardio session starts at 04:30am
then the second at 19:30pm or
straight after training, on days
when I train with weights.
I could not have achieved this
result without the support of
my wife and family and I would
also like to thank my sponsor
Atlas Supplement Supplies in
Ayr who provide me with all my
supplements.”
As well as his Mr Universe
achievement, Nick recently
won The Silver City Classic
competition. To qualify for this,
contestants had to be a previous or
current British Champion, which
he won in 2011.
Keep up the good work Nick!
The event has been running
successfully for nearly two years
and is attended by up to 30
people. The enthusiastic Eddie
Binnie and Andy Kerr regularly
provide music. The duo play
the guitar and song sheets are
handed out of popular classic
songs and we all join in with the
singing. You do not need to be
the greatest singer in the world
to take part. It is a fun event
where you can enjoy a sing-song,
socialise and have some home
baking, tea and coffee provided
by the St Columba’s Church
volunteers.
This fun and relaxing event
is run for all members of
the Stewarton community
and surrounding area, and is
supported by St Columba’s
Church volunteers in
cooperation with Alzheimer
Scotland.
Alzheimer Scotland have
become involved in this event
to encourage local persons in
the community with dementia
to attend a fun event and have
the chance to socialise and enjoy
music. A person with dementia
could attend with their carer or
family friend. Music is a great
therapy and is enjoyed by all.
We offer a welcome to all new
friends to share the enjoyment of
our Musical afternoons.
The John Knox Church Choir
will be attending the November
event on Friday 28th as the
build up to Christmas begins.
As it is the last Musical Minds
event of 2014 we will be
enjoying Christmas songs and
refreshments.
There is no December Musical
Minds, which restarts on 30th
January 2015.

Alzheimer Scotland on 07788
