Teas and coffees will be available and there will be guides on hand to show you around the church and churchyard. Some Background information: The church occupies an impressive site in a designated outstanding conservation area of the village. It is a lovely B listed building, dating from 1835 and incorporating parts of an earlier church building dated 1621. There are twentysix stained glass windows and these are considered quite outstanding in a rural village church. Adjacent to the church are two A listed buildings - the tomb of Hans Hamilton (the first post-Reformation minister of Dunlop), and the Clandeboyes Hall (formerly the village school), which was built to honour Hans Hamilton by one of his sons, Viscount Clandeboyes. In 2008 the discovery of an extensive outbreak of dry rot in the church building and serious defects in the exterior stonework meant that a restoration and refurbishment programme costing £750,000 had to be undertaken over a four year period. To mark its 30th anniversary, it was decided to hold a 2 hour Charity Work-out in May. 27 ladies participated in the event and raised the amazing sum of £870, which was split between Macmillan Nurses and Stewarton Woodlands Action Trust. A big thank-you to everyone who helped make it such a success. The class is still going strong on Monday nights at 8pm in the Area Centre and includes Aerobics and conditioning work for bums an tums. The new session begins on 19th August and new members are very welcome.
