The recent Annual General Meeting of the
Stewarton & District Community Council
provided an opportunity to review activities and
look forward to forthcoming challenges. The role
of the Community Council is to identify and then
represent local problems to the EAC and relevant
Community and Public Authorities. In addition,
the Community Council Resource Centre (Email:
[email protected] and Telephone:
01560 482775) located in the Town House,
Avenue Square provides facilities for photocopying,
and a fax machine. Both of these services are
available for the use of the general public. Bookings
for the self-drive 16 seat Community Bus,
computer tutorials and registering interest in the
Stewarton Rambler Chair scheme can also be done
at the Resource Centre.
The Community Council
comprises 14 volunteer
Community Councillors but
is established for many more. Information about
current activities is available from the Resource Centre (1000 to 1200,
Monday to Friday) and the noticeboard outside the Town House.
Current issues include the growth of housing and the local population;
policing; development of NHS Primary Care services; wind turbines;
leisure provision; road and rail transport; car parking; road repairs
and changes to licensed premises. If you reside in the Stewarton area
and are interested in filling one of the vacancies by becoming a local
Community Councillor please contact the Resource Centre. Successful
applicants can be co-opted to serve on the Community Council until
the next planned election.
All Community Council meetings are held in the Council Chambers
in the Town House at 7.30pm on the first Monday of each calendar
month. Police Scotland provide a report to this meeting and
Community Police Officers attend to answer questions when available
to do so. The meeting is also attended by at least one of the local
elected EAC Councillors. All meetings are open to the Public, the next
meeting is on Monday 4th August and everybody is welcome to attend.
