The recent dry spell has meant that we have been able to get into the Annick with our recently purchased waders to tidy up the rubbish that inevitably makes it’s way into the river, then gets caught on overhanging branches. There’s no doubt that this rubbish spoils the beauty of our river, and could perhaps be of danger to the wildlife that the river attracts. There have been recent sightings of kingfishers and otters, and the ducks are doing their best to populate the area! The herons have been much in evidence as well, and there is a wide variety of wild flowers to be seen, especially when the river is low. Unfortunately, there has been a bit of vandalism in the woods recently, including graffiti on trees and benches, broken glass bottles and cans left strewn around, and some damage to small trees, but hopefully those responsible will come to their senses and realise that they are spoiling their own wonderful facility, not only for all the people who use the paths, but for themselves as well. Once again, SWAT has been accepted by the Co-op as one of their local causes, so if you are a Co-op member and haven’t designated your 1% for local charities as yet, please consider giving it to us. All money raised will be used for the good of the town in one way or another, including more dog poo bins. Many thanks to the Co-op for their continued help. Look out for us on Facebook, and if you’d like to contact us, it can be done through our page, or email [email protected] or phone the SWAT mobile 07774563531.
