Local show jumper Codie McGowan recently went head to head with the rest of the UK to become the new National Springboard Champion for 2017 . In a competition restricted to small ponies , 10-year-old Codie from Stewarton was one of only two riders to jump a clear round over a very testing course at the Southview Equestrian Centre , near Nantwich in Cheshire . Returning a very polished second round to ensure her performance was good enough to secure victory , Codie , who attends Dunlop primary school , won the £ 150 first prize as well as the winners sash , rosette and rug , and a much coveted Gold medal with her worthy winner Rotherwood Dinky Toy ( known affectionately at home as ‘ Dinky )’.
“ We qualified for the final last year but unfortunately we weren ’ t able to go , so to go there and win this year has been very special ” said Codie who has been riding since she was two years old .
Often riding before she goes to school in the morning or coming straight off the school bus into the saddle after her day at Dunlop Primary , is something that this dedicated rider attributes to her recent run of success .
