Light Up Stewarton
by Adam Lyon what a night to remember for stewarton residents as they ended 2016 in style , with a sparkling community event that brought young and old together ! the town ’ s bonnet guild did a fantastic job organising a stunning torchlight parade along main street towards lainshaw woods . the sight of more than 500 people crowding along the street carrying flaming torches and glowsticks was a remarkable sight , one which will live long in the memory of those who were there .
The whole procession was led by the Lomond and Clyde Pipe Band , who really added to the occasion accompanied by Corsehill Queen Hannah Mackenzie and First Courtier Logan Morrison . At the parade ’ s finishing point , a huge bonfire had been set up , where revellers congregated for the final spectacle of the night . And with a bang , fireworks exploded in the sky over the viaduct , and for the next five minutes , the town ’ s residents were treated to a professional display unlike anything Stewarton had ever seen . Hot food and drinks were also being served , just what everyone needed on a cold December night , and it proved a perfect way to end the evening . The President of Stewarton Bonnet Guild , John Lynes , is hugely thankful for all the support they received from the community . He said : “ This is the first year we will have staged a December torchlight parade followed by an organised firework display and bonfire in the open area of Lainshaw Woods . Huge thanks to our sponsors , Bonnet Guild members , supporters and volunteers for their help in pulling it all together , and for giving the children and adults of Stewarton a night to remember .” Afterwards , the event was praised by the local community , with plenty of people asking for more of the same . Plans are well underway to arrange a similar spectacle for 2017 so watch this space ! In the meantime the next important date in the Bonnet Guild calendar is this summer ’ s Gala Week which takes place from Saturday 10th to Sunday 18th June , with Gala Day on Saturday 17th June 2017 .
