TS: I think that those who have been in the group have become good, upstanding citizens and well behaved young people. A lot of people who have been in the group have gone on to do well in life. These people now send their sons and daughters to the group and so this proves that they must have enjoyed it. AW: It has given all young people in Stewarton the opportunity to be part of something. It has helped them to see purpose in life and has taught them valuable leadership skills, therefore in turn helping the community. To mark this extraordinary achievement, the group are hoping to make this one of the best years that Stewarton Scouts has ever seen. In order to do this, they have lined up a series of events throughout the year, along with their usual programme of camps and badge work. This year, camps are taking place in April, June and September. The Scouts are only just back from a hike camp at Tyndrum. The group are undertaking their annual camp at Culzean from the 24th to the 26th of June, which will be one of the main opportunities for all sections to come together in 2016. The Cub section are also heading off to the one hundred year centenary camp for Cub Scouting in September, which is being held at Drumlanrig Castle. It is also an extra special year for the Stewarton Beavers, who are celebrating their 30th year in the town. There are currently two special events planned for this year to mark the huge milestone reached by the group. The first is being held in September, which will consist of a family fun day as well as a memorabilia display from the last century of Stewarton Scouts. As well as this, there will be a family ceilidh held to celebrate all that is good about Scouting in Stewarton and this will be a time for adults and children alike to come together. This will be held around October/ November time. Earlier this year, the whole group got together for a photo which mirrors the original taken in 1916. Over the past one hundred years, scouting has brought so much to the community of Stewarton. It has brought together a great variety of people from all walks of life, who all want to better themselves and have fun. The Stewarton Scout Group plays such a huge role in the town, and as it looks to celebrate a century of its existence, it will hope that there are many more years of scouting ahead.
