New Home Inspection Law in Effect

July 1, 2017 the law in the
Commonwealth of Virginia states
that any person performing home
inspections must be licensed. Until now the law has been
voluntary. Why this should matter or concern you as the
consumer. To be listed as a certified home inspector in the
Commonwealth of Virginia one must be licensed by the
Department of Occupational Regulation (DPOR). This is
the law and code in Virginia.
The Virginia Code section 54.1-517.1, effective July 1,
2003, which provides that no person may refer to an inspec-
tion as a “certified home inspection” unless he has been cer-
tified in accordance with the provisions of Article 1 of Title
54.1 of the Code o
