Fall is Almost Here
By Drew Howard , President, HomePro, Inc.
In 8 weeks it is Halloween,
12 weeks Thanksgiving, and 16
weeks Christmas. That is hard to imagine as we
still have 90 degree days, and the AC running full
blast. I can see the leaves changing color, and the
angle of the sun is fast moving with shorter days.
Football Friday, Saturday, and Sunday has begun
along with advertisements of Brunswick stew.
As yard mowing season will wind down shortly,
September is a great month to perform yard aera-
tion with a 3 month fertilization program. When
the leaves begin to fall take the time to clean your
gutters. Start now testing all exterior lighting.
Replace any burnt out bulbs so the trick-r-treaters
will not be in the dark. Take advantage of fall spe-
cials with HVAC tune ups. Replace furnace filters,
service humidifiers, make sure the propane and
oil tanks are full. Consult with pest companies if
you suspect indoor rodents. They will seek the
warmth of your home in the coming weeks.
Take time to inspect your fireplace and wood-
stove. Consult with a chimney sweep to have
the flue cleaned, chimney cap inspected, and any
overhanging tree limbs or vegetation removed.
Remember to clean out the garage and all storage
closets as you prepare to bring in garden hoses
and deck cushions. If you leave your grill outside,
now is a great time to get a cover to protect them
from the elements.
Inspect all windows in your home to make sure
they are sealed properly. Take time now to clean
your windows to allow the sun light to enter your
home. The added UV rays can add warmth dur-
ing the winter months.
October is National Fire Prevention Month.
Check all smoke alarms and replace batteries.
Make sure you have fire extinguishers located
in the kitchen, garage, and workshop. Always
remember PASS- pull, aim, squeeze, and sweep.
Always make sure any extension cords and space
heaters are UL approved. Take time to read man-
ufacturer directions for placement.
Now is the time to plan for the fast approach-
ing change of the seasons. If you have any home
questions please give me a call. Drew Howard
