October 21: Homecoming
Everyone came out in Hawaiian
shirts and colorful leis to
support our team at this year’s
homecoming game. The
homecoming court this year
stunningly represented the
school. Victoria Coulter, one of
the homecoming court members,
commented that, ¨It (being a
part of the homecoming court)
was really exciting because it is
something that you look forward
to since freshman year, and
everyone looked so great.¨
October 24: PowderPuff
The PowderPuff game this
year was a huge success.
Cheerleaders and players
had a blast with the
reversed roles.
March 27-31
This year’s Relay
for Life Pink Toilet
Fundraiser winners
were B-Hall teachers
Mrs.Collins, Mrs.
Weaver, and Mrs.
Long. Thanks to
their hard work,
they raised a
breathtaking amount
to help fight against
cancer.
March 27: Concert Band MPA Competition
Ruben Pelayo Quezada, a freshman who went
to MPA said, ¨We worked really hard, and we
had a severe disadvantage compared to the
other schools. We could only practice as an
entire ensemble on Fridays and the occasional
Saturdays. We still got all Superiors though.
We were really excited; Mr. Hairston´s face
was red to the point of crying while he was
congratulating us.”
June 10: Graduation
Highland’s seniors will
throw their caps in the
air as they celebrate
their graduation.
May 20: HST Prom
This year’s prom was held at Stowe
Manor on May 20th for all seniors,
juniors, and invited guests.

November 10: Mr. Highland
A select group of Highland
gentlemen participated in
Mr. Highland where they
showcased their personal
skills and had a good time.
March 2-4: Seussical
After weeks of hard work and
preparation, the dedicated
performers of dRAMa club put
on an amazing performance.
March 23-25: The FBLA State Trip this
year was a huge success. Two of our teams
are heading off to Nationals and almost
everyone medaled in their event. Senior
Will Carpenter who is moving on to the
national level said, “It [standing on stage]
was really scary. They called the other
places, and when it was down to first place
we knew we either got first or nothing, and
then our name was called. It was a huge
relief from the panic of not hearing our
names called. Seeing our hard work pay
off was wonderful; I was so grateful for the
opportunity.
March 30-April 1: HOSA State Trip
This year everyone at the HOSA State Trip
excelled, and many people are moving on
to Nationals. Freshman Aranya Saenchanh
commented, “My favorite part of the trip was
when my teammates were called to go on
stage for the top ten, it was even better when
someone earned one of the top three spots.
We all out-cheered the other high schools and
waved our little pom poms whenever someone
from Highland was called.”
April 2: Gaston County Art Show
Highland art students had the honor
of winning several first place awards
at the Gaston County Art show.
Ranging from paintings to multimedia
artwork. They had their work
featured alongside that of other
stellar high school artists.
(To the right: Sophie Carter and Mabel
Kenley, participants in the art show).
