Administrator Spotlight Chris Courtney, MSN, RN, NE-BC VP Nursing Services/Chief Nursing Officer Hometown: I call Hamilton, New Zealand my hometown. I moved to the States in 1992 when a hospital in Lubbock recruited nurses from New Zealand. Education: I received my diploma in nursing from Waikato Polytechnic in New Zealand. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Webster University and a Master of Science degree in nursing from Loyola University. Family: My husband, Glen, and I will celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary this June! We have an 11-year-old daughter, Jordan, and two very large rescue dogs, Zoe and Bailey. When did you come to work for Providence and what are your responsibilities presently? My first day was just last week, March 3rd! I am the chief nursing officer and I oversee everything under the nursing services scope. What do you enjoy most about working here? The people! As I am adjusting to a new work environment, and learning the ropes, everyone has been very friendly and helpful…and offering to help with directions. One thing I’ve noticed in my career is that the work is often the same, but it’s the people who make the difference. Here at Providence, it is evident that associates want to be successful and make a difference. If you had not gone into healthcare what would you have done? I wanted to do something where I could use languages—I learnt Japanese, French and German for a period of time—so I considered joining the Peace Corps. I also wanted to be a marine biologist. What drew you to healthcare? I wanted a job where I could work with people and make a difference in people’s lives. I am energized by people! Considering that you have seen a myriad of changes in
