The Post 2016 | Page 40

The sun shines on our backs

Whispy clouds above

Wind whistles through the pines

Summer days we love.

Hook and line in water

Climbing all the trees

Running through wet grass

Scraping up our knees.

Feeding ducks our bread crusts

Wading in the pond

Trying to catch crawfish

Drying on the lawn.

Scratched up by the briers

Twigs caught in our hair

The perfect hiking stick

Searching for a bear.

Cartwheels on hot asphalt

Muddied, barefoot feet

Collecting stones for skipping

Racing down the street.

Picking wild berries

Jumping off the swings

Mosquitos eat us up

The dinner bell rings.

Kitchen smells like heaven

Grab another friend

Carolina summer

Wish it'd never end.
