World Youth Day
The Ordinariate is to take a party to World Youth Day in 2016
and Fr Neil Chatfield tells us how to book your place
T
he idea for an Ordinariate group to go to WYD to encourage our young people in their faith and
experience the Universal Church, of which they now are a part, seemed important and the next World
Youth Day runs from the 23rd July to 1st August 2016 in Krakow, Poland.
30 places booked
express an interest
Therefore, we have registered an interest and booked
30 places. There will be 5 or 6 leaders and the rest
of the places are offered to the young adults of the
Ordinariate and associated young people. WYD is
primarily aimed at the 18-35 age group (yes you can
be 35 and still be considered young in the Catholic
Church!). That said, we would not preclude those 1516 years old who wished to experience WYD.
What I need now is for those who would like to
go to express an interest by passing on details to me,
Name, address, age, disabilities, dietary requirements
and e-mail. This is to express a positive interest at the
moment and does not commit you to anything but does
allow me to move to the second stage of registration.
It also allows me to keep you informed about plans as
they develop re final cost and travel plans.
WYD will have a variety of group activities such
as visiting the Salt Mine church, Auschwitz and
Kraków palace as well as experience traditional
Polish and Jewish food. There will also be the major
gatherings, these include: Tuesday 26th - Opening
Mass, Wednesday 27th - Youth Festival, Thursday
28th - Papal Welcome, Friday 29th - Way of the Cross,
Saturday 30th - Vigil with the Holy Father and Sunday
31st - Final Mass.
The cost of the trip should not exceed £700 per
person and I hope that it may even be a fair bit
cheaper. Cost will depend on our willingness to rough
it, sleeping camping style in schools or hostels. The
local organisers will allocate accommodation.
