Yorkshire Ordinariate Mass
O
n
Saturday,
September
15th, St Mary at the Cross (also
known as Our Lady of Sorrows) saw the
first Ordinariate mass to be celebrated in
Leeds. The Dean of St Anne’s Cathedral in
the city centre graciously welcomed some
50 participants from Bradford, Sheffield,
Wakefield, York and Leeds itself. A visitor
from the CofE asked to be received into the
Catholic church.
Fr David Stafford from Sheffield sang
High Mass, assisted by John Tee of the York
group and by Fr Robert Mercer CR who
came over from Mirfield, and who preached
on Newman’s motto, “Heart speaks to
heart”. The next Yorkshire mass will be in
St Joseph’s, Bradford, on Saturday, October
6th, organised by a potential group there.
Pilgrimage to Haddington
O n the
same day as the
Mass in Leads, Pilgrims
from the Ordinariate in Scotland
from Edinburgh, St Andrews,
Dunfermline, Whithorn, Castle
Douglas and Paisley visited the
Shrine of Our Lady and the Three
Kings in the Lauderdale Aisle within
St Mary’s Parish Kirk in Haddington
to the east of Edinburgh - see page 8.
The day began with a tour of St
Mary’s, the largest Parish Kirk in
Scotland. This was followed by
Solemn Mass according to Divine
Worship in the Shrine Chapel
which included the Reception and Confirmation
of Barnabas Francis McPhail, a former Anglican
Franciscan who has now found his home with the
Ordinariate in Scotland and where he plans to continue
living under the Franciscan Rule. It was a wonderful
occasion and we assure him of our prayers.
After lunch we returned to the Shrine Chapel of Our
Lady and the Three Kings where we listened to an
interview with the late Patrick Maitland, 17th Earl of
Lauderdale, recorded in 1998 about how he restored
the Shrine. The day ended with us singing the Litany of
the Saints which was followed by Benediction.
Walsingham Ordinariate Mission
T he Walsingham
Ordinariate Mission
is changing both its time of Sunday Mass and
the location of its meeting. The Ordinariate Mass will
continue to be on the first Sunday of each month, but
will now be at 3pm. The location will change to the
Dowry House Chapel, Dowry House Retreat, 47-49
High Street, Walsingham, Norfolk, NR22 6BZ.
The exception is October, which will be on the
second Sunday, 14th October. They are changing time
and location to improve the pastoral and social time
that they are able to spend together following the
Mass. The Group is now pastored by Deacon Shaun
Morrison [email protected] -
07880 600094. We wish them well.
