Catholic higher education institute
According to the Independent Catholic News www.indcatholicnews.com - Scotland has its first
Catholic higher education institute in modern times.
Opened by the Papal Ambassador to the United
Kingdom, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, the new
Saint Ninian’s Institute in Dundee will offer longdistance learning in Catholic theology and culture.
of Nine Lessons and Carols, as something which was
once merely Anglican and is now part of the treasurestore of the whole Universal Church”.
The Institute will also provide opportunities for
ecumenical initiatives. All this will be backed-up
with residential weekends and lectures. Working in
conjunction with the Maryvale Ecclesiastical Institute
in Birmingham, St Ninian’s will offer research PhDs.
Sad News
It was with great sadness that The Portal
has learned that that Petroc Willey and some
other members of staff at Maryvale Institute in
Birmingham, have resigned “for personal reasons”.
Afterwards a goodly number of journalists enjoyed
a reception. Well, we all like a party! In a question

Ordinariate Clergy wives honoured
The annual Catholic Women of the Year

Ordinariate clergy (pictured right).
The citation honours these women who have
“bravely supported their husbands on the
path to Christian unity: in the process they
have surrendered financial security and family
homes while having to support their families
at a time of great stress and uncertainty. They
are an often forgotten but nevertheless vital part of
fulfilling the vision of the Ordinariate.”
New Ordinariate Liturgy
Between one hundred and fifty and two hundred
people were at Our Lady of the Assumption and St
Gregory, Warwick Street, London, on Thursday 10
October for the unveiling of the new Ordinariate
Liturgy. Mass of Blessed John Henry Newman was
offered by the Ordinary The Right Revd Mgr Keith
Newton according to the new Rite.
In his Homily, Mgr Andrew Burnham, referring
to the new Rite said, “it is part of who we are, our
Anglican DNA, and what we bring, and it will take
its place, alongside Choral Evensong, and the Festival
