Ordinariate Rite Mass
in Portsmouth
The feast
day of Our Lady of Walsingham
was transferred to Saturday 28th September and
celebrated with some style in Saint Agatha’s Church,
Portsmouth.
These photographs were taken during the Solemn
High Mass in Portsmouth with Bishop Philip Egan. It
was a wonderful witness celebrated according to the
Ordinariate Rite in the awe inspiring Saint Agatha’s.
The Ordinariate Mass is best described as ‘The
Tridentine Rite in English’. (With the Ordinary of the
Mass, and much else, in Latin.) For those who follow
the Usus Antiquior it was a case of ‘scenes familiar’. The
setting was polyphonic - Hadyn’s Kleine Orgel Messe
with the Southampton Chamber Group.
The approved form for the Ordinariate Rite of
Mass is launched on 10th October. The Ordinariate
will be doing itself a great disfavour if they are not
all encouraged to follow the example of Anglican
Patrimony set by the Portsmouth and Croydon groups
and celebrated with such dedication.

Evensong at Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral
On Sunday
6th October, the Ordinary, Mgr
Keith Newton, visited Wales at the invitation of
the Most Revd Archbishop George Stack, Archbishop
of Cardiff, where he presided over a celebration of
Evensong at the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of
St David in the centre of Cardiff.
The service was attended by Welsh members of the
Ordinariate as well as diocesan Catholics from several
surrounding parishes. Mgr Newton preached and the
Cathedral choir, conducted by Mr Dominic Neville,
chanted the psalmody.
After the event, everyone gathered at The Cornerstone
at St David’s for refreshments.
