Abortion on
Demand: Surely not?

ost people think the so-called “Tampon Tax”
is unfair and not justifiable. But, as long as we
have to have it, using the money raised through this
unfair tax on women’s charities is thought to be a
good thing.
I am surprised then, to hear that there is a row
about £250,000 given to the charity LIFE. Abortion
supporters and providers are crying “foul” over
this grant because LIFE is a pro-life charity. It will
use the money to provide “housing, practical help,
counselling, emotional support and life skills training
for young pregnant women who are homeless”.
Radical and dangerous stuff then.
abortion on the grounds of the sex of the unborn.
There is mounting evidence that this adversely affects
girls. It is the girl that is aborted because the parents
want a boy.
So serious has this become in Canada that there is
a proposal not to tell parents the sex of their unborn
child to prevent them opting for abortion.
What a state of affairs! The pro-abortion lobby,
using the label “feminism”, turn out to be anti female
babies! The feminist movement has degenerated into
persecution of women. This is not true feminism of
course, it is a mockery of feminism.
It seems that if a charity is “pro-life” then it must
be against women’s autonomy. But is that the case?
Sometime ago a friend and I went on a pro-life walk
in Birmingham. There were some abortion supporters
who also turned out. As far as I could tell, their sole
purpose in being there was to shout abuse at us. “Not
the church, not the state, women must decide their
fate” they chanted. Curious: as the walk was about
preserving the life of the unborn. It was not about
harming any woman, in a physical or emotional way. This is a serious situation and we of the Catholic
Faith who hold that all life is sacred from the moment
of conception to death, need to do all we can to
prevent this outrage. LIFE has set up an email that
allows you to write to your MP and support LIFE and
this important grant. www.lifecharity.org.uk/act-now/
Yet, apparently, many of those who support
abortion think it is somehow “anti-women” for LIFE
to use this grant in support of pregnant women who
are suffering hardship, and have housing problems,
and lack other things most of us would consider
necessities. You can “like” and “share” this on Facebook,
Twitter, e-mail and other friendship links.
This sad little story contains a real nasty centre. We
are criticised if we call the unborn a “child”. It must
be referred to as a “foetus”. Language is manipulated
to de-humanise the unborn. Furthermore, there
is a growing lobby in our country that wants
to “decriminalise” abortion. If they succeed,
all restrictions on abortion would be removed.
Abortion for any reason, on demand and right up to
the actual birth itself is what is being sought.
“For any reason” would, presumably include
