Portugal Week in London
Portugal Week , the first week in June , was very busy at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St Gregory in Warwick Street , the home of the Central London Ordinariate Group .
On June 5th , a mass was celebrated by Monsignor Keith Newton . This had splendid music and was well attended , most notably by the Portuguese Ambassador to the United Kingdom , Joao de Vallera . Many of the Portuguese members of the congregation came in national dress .
Other events took place during the week , and the closing event , also at the church , was the Portugal Day concert by the Anglo Portuguese Ensemble . The ensemble is a collaboration between the Portuguese embassy in the United Kingdom , the church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St Gregory in Warwick Street and young British and Portuguese musicians living in London . The Portuguese Ambassador also attended this event and at a reception afterwards Monsignor Keith Newton praised the Ensemble for its music and for the friendships it engenders . Monsignor Newton also thanked the Ambassador , who is about to retire , for his friendship and support for the venture . Receiving a presentation , the Ambassador said that this visit to the Church would certainly not be his last .
