THE P RTAL January 2019 Joanna Bogle tells all T he LOGS What have LOGS been up to? Page 4 – if you don’t know who we are, you’ll work it out by the end of this feature – had a good year in 2018. We ran our annual schools project, and children from across London learned the Lord’s Prayer and earned prizes writing it out. Our LOGS Prayer Book for children proved a big success. It has the basic prayers that every child should know; if you want a copy, send a fiver to LOGS at 22 Redcross Way London SE1 1TD  It is attractive to use and handle. na wri tes We went on a river pilgrimage down the Thames to St Mary’s University, and had a glorious few days in Walsingham which was part-pilgrimage, part AGM, part simple enjoyment of each others’ company.  The evening walk by the sea at Wells remains a glowing memory: we sang “The day Thou gavest, Lord” as the sun went to its rest in a glory of pink and gold… We had some superb talks during the year on topics ranging from school chaplaincy to the non-Jurors and Jacobites. We ate cake and other goodies.  We prayed for one another in joy and in sorrow. We went carol- singing in the spendidly-named Flat Iron Square near the Borough Market. And we finished with a splendid Christmas Dinner cooked by our youngest member and enjoyed with relish. And, for fun, here’s the poem that was recited to mark our work in schools: Political correctness that now violates our land – A land once known for common sense – is hard to understand. For we have valued freedom, used with courtesy and care For other people’s feelings, in a land that all could share. And passing on of wisdom and the cherishing of truth Are things that grown-ups have to do to guard and guide our youth. But among the ugly ventures being pushed by knaves and fools Is trying to stop God from being mentioned in our schools While, truthfully, the law allows Him full right to be there; And all our nation’s heritage is bound up with that care. So LOGS took on the challenge, and with goodwill and good cheer Have organised a project that now flourishes each year It takes a bit of work and just a dash of faith and dare: The children in our London schools are learning the Lord’s Prayer! It’s easy to feel gloomy in our poor and muddled times Our loss of faith and culture baffles those of other climes. The Christian church in Africa grows joyfully each year While here in Britain Christians have a sense approaching fear. We need to get our courage up, face down our foes and stare: The children in our London schools are learning the Lord’s Prayer! Political correctness like all stupid fads will go And we can help its passing, and find joy in doing so. And God, who is our Father can remind us all instead Of holiness, forgiveness and our thanks for daily bread. And when you say it can’t be done, ask LOGS and be aware The children in our London schools are learning the Lord’s Prayer!
