The Interview with the two priests of the CDF in
Rome caught my attention in last month’s Portal.
That they are encouraging the Ordinariate to use the
Ordinariate Rite comprising, as it does, of the words
of Thomas Cranmer is a revelation.
As an ex-Anglican and now a Catholic, but not a
member of the Ordinariate, those well-worn words
are engraved deep within me. I well remember, as a
child, being warmed by the phrase “Draw near with
faith….” I am thrilled that they are now part of the
Catholic liturgy.

Ecumenism was all but dead. Meetings sparsely
attended. The subject generated little interest beyond
those who like to talk about it without the discomfort
of doing anything.
I would echo Fr Lopes’ words in the Interview in
last month’s Portal. The Ordinariate is indeed a great
Ecumenical adventure that has altered the landscape.
People may like to sit around and talk about it, but
you in the Ordinariate, at the invitation of Pope
Emeritus Benedict, have actually done it! More power
to your elbow. You are examples to us all. May ever
more follow your example.

The Portal is always interesting and informative, but
I did enjoy the interview with the two priests from
Rome and that with the two Sisters from Walsingham
in last month’s edition.
Fr Lopes’ explanation of “Anglican Patrimony”
was really helpful. I was struggling with the concept
of Patrimony. Nevertheless, it seems that some
Ordinariate members prefer the ordinary Catholic
Parish and Rite.

The first of each month is always exciting because
it means The Portal is available. But, last month was
especially exciting as your magazine contained the
interview with Fathers Lopes and Geissler of the CDF.
This most interesting and informative interview,
told us so much about what the CDF expect from the
Ordinariates in general and from the Ordinariate in
the UK in particular.
That Fr Geissler recognises that “within our
Catholic Church not everybody is as enthusiastic as
we may be, and as you are” is comforting. He goes on
to encourage us to be faithful and “to persevere”.
Here we learn that the CDF realises that we have
difficulties and problems. That they pray for us and
encourage us ought to cheer every loyal member of
the Ordinariate. We must all be faithful to the project
we have been given.
