Changes at The Portal
Mgr Harry Entwistle, the
Ordinary of the Ordinariate
of Our Lady of the Southern
Cross, has appointed Fr Neil
Fryer as our Australian Editor.
Of course all our readers will be
able to access both versions of
The Portal via our website.
M
any of you will have
received e-mails
requesting a donation of £10
a year for The Portal. The
magazine will remain free.
However, we think you will
agree that £10 is a small price to
give for The Portal. It works out
at 84p a copy! If you have not
received the e-mail, but would
still like to donate your £10,
details of how to do so are on
the Donate page of our website
at www.portalmag.co.uk.
new columnist
Also in this edition of The
Portal you will find the first
article by our new columnist.
He may be known to many of
you. He is, of course, our old
and valued friend, Geoffrey
Kirk, now happily a member of
the Ordinariate. You will find
his piece on page twenty.
Advent Supplement
As usual this December
edition contains the special
Advent Supplement. This
year the supplement is given over to The Portal’s
recent visit to the CDF in the Vatican. His Eminence
Archbishop Müller, Mgr Steven Lopes and Father
Hermann Geissler received The Portal and
generously gave up their time.
They also gave us their thoughts on the progress
of the Ordinariate in the UK. They have some
important words to say to us about Liturgy, about
Patrimony and about Mission and Evangelism. We
are most grateful to them for their warm reception
and kindness. Pictures and the interview are in the
Advent Supplement.
Papal General Audience
Whilst in Rome, The Portal was able to attend the
Papal General Audience on 13th November 2013.
Pictures of that Audience are also to be found in this
edition of The Portal. You should know that these
pictures were taken by The Portal ... and yes, we
were that close!
The Portal is going International
From 1st January 2014, The Portal is going
International. From that date there will be a UK
version of The Portal, and an Australian version.
Fr Peter Geldard
This means that we are saying “goodbye” to one
of our stalwarts. A real friend of the Ordinairate in
general, and of The Portal in particular, Fr Peter
Geldard has decided to lay down his pen as far as
The Portal is concerned. His duties as a University
Chaplain take up his time. We are most grateful to
him for his pithy articles. He helped to get us off to
a flying start. We shall miss him and them. But: you
never know he may return refreshed in the future. We
