On 11th February 1858 an unknown girl in a remote French village claimed to have seen a “ beautiful lady ” while collecting firewood from a grotto in the village refuse area . Amidst increasing interest in the girl , Bernadette Soubirous continued to receive apparitions from the lady who revealed herself as the “ Immaculate Conception ”, with a message of prayer and penance for the world , asking to have a chapel built there and calling the faithful to come in procession and to wash and drink at the spring . Today some 5 million people from 130 countries around the world respond to this call . Every pilgrim who returns from Lourdes does so renewed and refreshed , and changed in some way .
Tuesday 10th September ~ Stansted - Lourdes Depart by Eurostar from St Pancras , or by scheduled direct flight from Stansted to Lourdes . On arrival transfer by coach to our hotel ( Hotel Stella Matutina ) in Lourdes for a four-night stay . After dinner there will be an informal walk to the Grotto .
Wednesday 11th September ~ Lourdes International Mass , visit to the baths , walk or short bus ride to La Cité St Pierre . The purpose of La Cité St Pierre , situated on the beautiful hillside just above Lourdes . After dinner we pray the Rosary and are invited to take part in the Torchlight procession .
Thursday 12th September ~ Lourdes Mass at the chapel of the St Frei Hospital , walk and pray the lower Stations of the Cross , guided walking tour of places associated with Bernadette Soubirous . At 5pm we are invited to take part in the Blessed Sacrament procession .
Friday 13th September ~ Lourdes , Bartres and Gavarnie Visit to the small village of Bartres , Mass in the Church of St John the Baptist . Afternoon - optional excursion to Pyrenean village of Gavarnie .
Saturday 14th September ~ Lourdes - Stansted Transfer to the airport for our return flight to Stansted or to the Stansted for our return journey via Paris to St Pancras .
