CofE are ones of warmth and gratitude . As a lifelong Anglican from the East End of London I had no wish to be disloyal . In my book Anglican Difficulties I mention only two CofE dignitaries . My policy was to attack ideas rather than people .
what are the means by which truth is known to be true ?
“ One of the main reasons for being Catholic is the magisterium . It authenticates and develops clear doctrine . The key is : what are the means by which truth is known to be true ? This is written upon my heart . I believe the answer is found within the Catholic Church ; an answer not always in a form acceptable to current thought . For thirty to forty years I believed in a Christianity that I now know is Catholicism .
Saint Andrew , Garlickhythe in the City of London
“ I had been worshipping at Saint Andrew , Garlickhythe in the City of London . They gave me a splendid farewell party . Now I go to the Catholic Chaplaincy at Newman House in Gower Street . My welcome into the Catholic Church has been very warm , and I have encountered no problems for Anglicans .
It caught the Church of England with its cassock down
“ The Ordinariate fits easily into the Church of Rome , which has always had many Rites . From the point of
Good servers can multi-task ! view of the CofE it is without precedent . I wonder if the Ordinariate was not really created for the CofE but for the USA , Canada and Australia . It caught the CofE with its cassock down . The Ordinariate was invented because people had requested it . The Pope did exactly what he had been asked to do . It is a well tried formula drafted by experts and very professional . The fact that Church buildings in England are not owned by their congregations may be a problem . In the USA churches were founded by their congregations and they pay their own clergy too . This may result in the Ordinariate having a limited future in England . It will , however , prove to be an effective entry to Catholicism for many .
Christianity as a dimension of Welfare Humanism
“ The Church of England today , in its understanding of religion , is undergoing a degree of feminisation - as are cultural values in general . This tends to a representation of Christianity as a dimension of Welfare Humanism . Catholic Christianity recognises the duty of human succour , and urges its importance , but is concerned primarily with the salvation of souls , and a recognition of human moral frailty .
“ My last word on the matter is of Christianity to be received like little children . It is simple . It is not to be made up for oneself , but it is to be believed . A lot of religion is mystery . We approach it with trust .”
