THE P RTAL April 2017 During the course of the pilgrimage, real issues were tackled. We heard various views on Justification by Faith and Justification by Faith Alone with reference to Martin Luther. To see wonderful pictures of those marvellous wooden churches of northern Russia Richard Davies was inspirational. Page 13 coverage of Our Lady and the Church in Japan. This year, his subject was the centenary of the Shrine at Fatima. He did not disappoint. Margaret Barker The Ecumenical Marian Pilgrimage Trust is a body that deserves to be better known. When there is so much false ecumenism about, and as Snapdragon highlighted in a recent edition of T he P ortal , a lot of sheer humbug, it is refreshing to experience an ecumenical endeavour that tackles the real issues with honesty, sensitivity, and politeness. It is a far cry from the local ‘Churches Together’ group of which I had the dubious honour to be chairman. The severe cold of the winter, the remoteness of the towns and villages, not to mention the persecution during the Soviet era when these beautiful churches were not just neglected, but deliberately damaged and destroyed; we heard about it all, we saw it in wonderful Metropolitan Kallistos Ware photography. Another issue covered was The Immaculate Conception of the BVM. Metropolitan The EMPT has a web site at Kallistos gave extensive coverage of this in his talk www.ecumenicalmarianpilgrimage.org.uk. about the life and theology of Vladimir Lossky. The next EMPT pilgrimage is on Saturday 5th It was both interesting and informative. Father May 2018 when they will visit the Holy Places of Philip Corbett is a favourite with this Pilgrimage.
