Q&A
never have cancer.
Women with a high risk of breast
cancer should talk with their doctor about the pros and cons of all
the available options to manage or
lower your breast cancer risk, including bilateral prophylactic mastectomy.
Remember, take the time to make the
decisions that are right for you. This is
not a decision that needs to be rushed.
These decisions are highly personal.
Your doctor can help you choose the
method or methods that are right for
you.

Does Susan G. Komen North Florida
have any specific plans for creating
awareness and financial support for
early breast cancer prevention for
Hispanic women?
Yes, through our community profile
project, this provides the framework for
establishing our grant funding priorities.
The community profile is a 19-month
project to assess the breast cancer
needs in North Florida. All Susan G.
Komen Affiliates conduct community
profiles to identify populations most at
risk for dying from breast cancer and
their characteristics; identify needs and
gaps in health system; identify community assets; and better understand
what people know, think and do about
breast cancer. The community profile
is the foundation for strategic planning
and informs Affiliate priorities for mission and non-mission work. By focusing on these priorities, Komen Affiliates
can ensure that resources and programs
reach the individuals most impacted by
breast cancer.
