The best of the best in First Coast
food returned to the Avenues Mall on
Oct. 25 for the 32nd annual Caring
Chefs event, benefitting the Children’s
Home Society of Florida. The event is
touted as the biggest and best food
and wine tasting in Jacksonville, hosting crowds of upwards of 2,000 attendees in the mall to sample cuisine from
across Northeast Florida.
Both levels of the Avenues Mall were
taken over by restaurant vendor booths
as visitors were invited to roam, the
halls sampling wine and spirits while
listening to live music, all in the name
of helping children. More than 10 new
restaurants joined the roster this year
including Orsay, Black Sheep, Table
1, Kazu Japanese Restaurant and Terra
Guacha Brazilian Steakhouse.
Thirty years ago, the board of directors for the Children’s Home Society of
Florida began the Caring Chefs event
in hopes of gaining community support
for their cause. The event supports the
group’s overall mission: embracing children, inspiring lives.
The proceeds from Caring Chefs are
a major portion of the funding for the
22 programs that provide aide and prevention of child abuse. The programs
are broken down into three categories:
embracing families, residential and clinical programs.
