Community News 39 Ponte Vedra Recorder · November 12, 2015 SHORT TAKES Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens Champagne & Shopping The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens presents its annual Champagne & Shopping event from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 3 and 4 at the Cummer Shop. Guests will enjoy holiday music, complimentary champagne and appetizers, as well as discounts on every purchase, depending on the day of attendance (20 percent on Wednesday, 15 percent on Thursday, and 10 percent on Friday), in addition to regular member discounts. Champagne & Shopping offers a unique opportunity to purchase holiday gifts while also supporting the mission of the Museum. He is also the cofounder, along with his wife, of the Wish You Well Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting literacy efforts across America. Jacksonville Holiday Extravaganza Jacksonville Holiday Extravaganza, a community-wide celebration to open the holiday season sponsored by St. Vincent’s Healthcare, is Friday, Nov. 27 from 4-8 pm. At Unity Plaza, 220 Riverside Ave., Jacksonville. The celebration will include a live nativity, tree lighting, live music, an ice sculpture display, food and drink for all ages, a children’s art salon, and surprise performances. Harvest Time at Fort Mose On Saturday, Nov. 14 Florida Living History, Inc., in partnership with Fort Mose Historic State Park and the Fort Mose Historical Society, will present 18thcentury, historical interpretation focusing on harvest-time in colonial Spanish Florida. Volunteers from Florida Living History, Inc., will discuss and illustrate the food and foodways of 18th-century Fort Mose and St. Augustine from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Mose Historic State Park in St. Augustine. Demonstrations AyoLane Huskey, Naturalist/Trout Creek Park/St. Johns County Department of Recreation and Parks, will be sharing with youngsters 18th-century survival skills from the frontiers of colonial Florida. Other children’s activities will include pottery-making, tin-smithing, cornhusk-doll-making, “militia” drill, leather-working, and more.
