DRAMA// EXAMINATIONS GC SE There was no holding back the 30 GCSE candidates this year, as they surged into their Devised pieces and kept the momentum going straight into text-based performances. All of them were exciting and showed just how much can be achieved when the pressure is on and the right preparation has been done. The Devised work ranged from murder whodunnits through Marilyn Monroe and the text pieces used classic and modern plays to provide scenes for two or three people. The latter especially were a joy to watch. They were shown to an external examiner in a smooth succession of performances, each of which was tight, precise and gave every pupil the chance to shine. And shine they did! In addition to all of this there were excellent design candidates working on Sound, Lighting, Set and Costume. Mention especially must go to TST Wardrobe Manager Cheryl White whose committed support for all the Costume designers enabled them to show period clothing and distressed clothing, high fashion and original concepts to the highest of standards. Similarly, TST Manager Steven Ryan’s support for the Lighting designs meant that these too could be realised safely, efficiently and in the best possible way. Drama is a journey of confidence, discipline and creativity: all attributes necessary for success in life. The School is proud of its Drama students and of the extraordinary personal growth achieved by so many. Well done all! THE POCKLINGTONIAN 83
