SPORT// TENNIS GIRLS TENNIS Senior VI P11 / W7 / D0 / L4 As last year, the girls were successful in the Team Tennis National Schools Championship making it through to the Regional Final of the Aberdare Cup. Unfortunately, however, a strong Loretto side put a stop to any further progress. Loretto now go through to the National Finals at Nottingham in July where the top sixteen schools compete. Squad members: Cordie Cavill (Capt.), U15 VI The weather has been kind to us this season, which has certainly helped, but the girls in the U15 squad just love to play Tennis and the joy on their faces while they have a racket in their hands is a pleasure to watch! The first pair, Taggy Medforth and Emma Sweeting have been formidable on court and both of their competitive attitudes, teamed with pure skill and U14 VI Bryony Underwood, Alice Mowforth, Tiggy Elwes, Sophie Chiverton, Millie Goode, Sophie McCracken, Millie Barnes, Emma Farnsworth, India Esa, Jessie Morgan, Bella Byass, Izzy Hobson and Grace Atkinson. Special mention should go to Izzy Hobson and Grace Atkinson who, although they had not played in many matches during the early part of the season, stepped in at the last minute to play a York League match against Queen Margarets’. Both girls displayed great commitment and enthusiasm for determination has won them huge success against some skilful opposition. Izzy Prescott and Imogen Croston have paired up superbly and have found their feet in attacking the net to become an almost unbeatable duo. Grace Beckett, Tilly Rumgay, George Elliott, Annabel Atkinson and Lily Walster have been wonderful ambassadors for Tennis at Pocklington and they have played with determination, good humour and etiquette on court. the game and were an asset to the team and school. Congratulations to Millie Goode who has been appointed girls’ Tennis Captain for the 2019 season. She has been a key player this year, displaying not only tennis skills, but also a commitment and desire to represent the school. Half Colours Awarded to: Millie Goode AGC This season, we have had wins against Hill House, Queen Margaret’s and Ampleforth just to name a few. The girls’ commitment and dedication to school Tennis has been second to none and they all deserve to be incredibly proud of their efforts and achievements. Joint Players of the Season: Taggy Medforth and Emma Sweeting Most Improved Player: Izzy Prescott Team: Jess McDowell, Izzy Scanlon, Amy Jordan, Emma Mackay, Ava Laverack, Ellie Broadbent, Abby Foster. The girls encountered strong opposition against Ampleforth, St Peter’s and Queen Margaret’s this term. In the Queen Mary’s tournament, Amy Jordan and Emma Mackay finished in third position in their side of the draw - an excellent achievement. In other fixtures, the girls were victorious against Woodhouse Grove, Hymers and Bootham. The final match of the season versus St Peter’s was sadly called off by the opposition - so we were given the game! Well done to the girls for a strong and competitive season.
