Athletics 2018 The 2018 season has proven to be one of the most successful seasons for many years. This is from a team and an individual point of view. To have 14 students represent the school in National finals – 12 lower school students in the National Prep School Athletics Competition and 2 Students qualified for the prestigious English Schools Athletics Finals which is a fantastic achievement from them (with Georgia Rothwell qualifying for 1500m for the fourth consecutive year). Lucas, who represented Goole Youth Athletics Club in the race at Costello Park and stadium, Hull, will now represent Humberside at the upcoming Inter County Cross Country Championships in Loughborough in March. He said: “I was really pleased to win because I’d been ill and hadn’t trained fully for a long time. It was a really close finish but I was determined to beat the (1st place) (1st place) (1st place) (1st place) lad I was running against at the finish line because I’ve competed against him a few times before. “I wanted to win it so much I just found the extra energy to push forward at the end. There was only about a second in it but it felt great to win.” David Byas said: “Lucas is a talented all-rounder who represents the school at athletics and has also been a successful addition to our clay pigeon shooting team. His cross country success is much-deserved recognition for all the hard work he puts in.” In November, Lucas also made his debut in the Pocklington School boys’ clay pigeon shooting team, helping it to win the Intermediate category in the Yorkshire Schools Open Challenge, held near Snaith, East Yorkshire.
