On Tuesday 5 June, athletes from the Middle School at
Pocklington School gave a fantastic performance at the English
Schools’ Athletics Team Competition Regional B final held at
Costello stadium, Hull.
The Inter Boys’ team performed brilliantly, to win the
Regional B final by a fantastic 32 points. They had previously
qualified for the second round of the English Schools’ team
competition by winning the Humberside competition so this is
a great term’s achievement for the boys. The team performed
very well, with the majority of athletes recording better
performances than the previous round which saw them beat
schools from across the North East of England.
In the individual events, Lukas Bradshaw threw the English
Schools’ qualifying standard for the discus and will now
be selected to represent Humberside in this prestigious
competition for the second year in a row.
Mr Spruyt, teacher i/c athletics said: I am delighted with
the achievement of the team, especially as a number of the
boys were competing a year young, which highlights their
determination and effort. This is also a busy term for the
students as they endeavour to balance school work and
extracurricular commitments, so they should be commended
on this success.

40 athletes competed in the English Schools Athletics team
competition. They did really well in the cold and the wind
at Costello stadium. The Inter boys team (3rd and 4th years
boys combined) came 1st and have qualified for a regional
final. The 1st and 2nd year boys came second out of 11 schools
and have just missed out of a regional final. The junior girls
competed really well and came 5th place out of 11 schools
which was a really positive achievement.

THE POCKLINGTONIAN
The sports day on 30th June was held in
glorious sunshine, with just enough wind
to cool the athletes down. The atmosphere
was excellent and the standard of athletics
was probably the best for a number of years.
This resulted in a large number of sports
day and school records being set, which is a
testament to the amount of hard work that
a number of students have invested into
athletics this term.
